When Nate told me that he had just gotten promoted to Global Sales Manager for All City and that he and Jeff were coming through with time to spare, it was pretty clear that we needed to go ride.
With less than a week heads up, I didn't really expect many folks to show up for a December night ride. It's pretty rare that I get to be happy about being wrong; loose count showed just a bit more than 40 riders rolling out from the Rosedale Arch.
After a quick view of the city, we dropped down from Mt. Marty (yeah, it has a name...) and rolled down 39th St West and through Westport on our way to Penn Valley Park. Some folks chilled at the Scout statue and enjoyed one of the best views of KCMO while more adventurous riders got rad in the skate park.
Rolling out from the Scout, it was straight down the unlit, grassy hill and onto Southwest Boulevard. (Remember how we suggested bigger tires?) A quick dogleg onto the suggested bike route takes us past the American Royal and properly into the West Bottoms.
As much fun as the road can be, we couldn't resist the opportunity to duck off onto the levee along the Missouri River for a little while. From there, a few turns takes to the land of loading dock launch ramps for Garet and a couple of the other riders who just couldn't keep both wheels on the ground.
From there we took the Riverfront Trail under the Lewis & Clark Viaduct to take advantage of a bike / ped only bridge into Kansas and the park at Kaw Point. Pictures were taken, recovery drinks abounded and Judas Priest sang us back into the saddle. We finally split up back at the Boulevard, with some folks headed back to the Arch and others on into Westport, where Nate and Jeff were nice enough to pick up the first round's tab on the All-City card!
